The use of journal impacts in evaluating individuals has its inherent dangers. In an ideal world, evaluators would read each article and make personal judgments. The recent International Congress on Peer Review and Biomedical Publication (http://www.jama-peer.org) demonstrated the difficulties of reconciling such peer judgments.
